City of Bones by Cassandra Clare at the time was her first book. It is a YA fantasy book the books are about 300 to about 700 pages long. This by far was one of my favorites of her's. Some dislike this series and don't go past this book because it is heavy on world-building and they dislike the main character Clarissa or Clary Fray. I disagree, I think these characters are comedic, smart, and sassy, and this book has an excellent climax and wrap-up. This was an amazing book.

These books are the first of a entire world and series for Cassandra. Obviously this book is going to have a lot of explaining to do for the world. I loved that about the book. It made you wonder about all the creatures and demons and how they work. Clare created a great foundation that she built on in future books that puts the characters in hard situations that tests them and sees what they are made of. A very cool part of this world is the politics like the Clave,Werewolf pack and Vampire clan because it creates future problems and solutions. The author's world is rich and adds layers to the book.
I have to admit Clary isn't always the best character in the book. She can be frustrating and does not listen much. My favorite characters were Simon,Jace, and Isabelle. Simon was the trusting, goofy, and nerdy best friend but, he still was funny and was a reminder of Clary's past life. Jace was sarcastic, adventurous, and a quick thinker. Isabelle was sassy and brave. Still, I loved that Clary was an artist because it was a cool and different to see how she saw things. All of these characters are distinct and special.
The climax was action packed. It makes you wonder how they will stop Valentine in the second book. Jace's and Clary's relationship is heart- breaking and soul-crushing. Valentine is a perfect example of pure evil and yet, his fatherly feel for Jace humanizes him. I loved the wrap up because it showed the development between the characters at the Institute. The climax really left you shocked and want to pick up the next book.
In conclusion I adored this book. It has such a compelling universe, unique characters, and a exciting climax and fulfilling wrap-up. It created great space for the future books, and those books are make you grow connections for these characters and laugh and cry for them. Cassandra Clare's stories are super fun and engrossing and I recommend it to YA fantasy readers.
